Our Vision

We aspire to be a friendly, cooperative Sailing Club that values self-reliance and seamanship, and shares the privileges and responsibilities of membership. We strive to be good stewards of our Club’s heritage, and of the seas we sail.

Our members actively support the Club by attending All-Club events including the spring Sailpast, fall Commodore’s Event, General Meetings, the Annual General Meeting, and by volunteering their skills, knowledge and time to club programs and activities. They are rewarded with well-run Racing, Cruising, Junior, social and educational programs; excellent waterfront and onshore facilities; affordable moorage; and life-long friendships.

Our Purpose

To foster and promote interest in cruising and sailing, and to develop seamanship and a knowledge of navigation.

• Principal residence must be on Salt Spring Island.
• Regular Membership may consist of a Primary member, or a Primary and a Secondary member if the second person lives in the same residence in a spousal relationship.
• Each Regular Membership has one vote, and may hold one office.
• Each person in a Regular Membership is expected to provide at least 20 hours of volunteer work per year.
• Regular Membership members who have been active and in good financial standing with the club for at least 3 years, may Sponsor new applicants. However, both members in a Regular Membership may not sponsor the same applicant.
• Once Regular Membership has been granted, the new member may start the Moorage Application process for SISC mooring.
• Moorage availability is determined by the Wharfinger.

• Principal residence is not required to be on Salt Spring Island.
• Associate Membership may consist of a Primary member, or a Primary and a Secondary member if the second person lives in the same residence in a spousal relationship.
• Associate Membership members may participate in all Club activities, however they may not vote, hold office, or Sponsor new applicants.
• Each person in an Associate Membership is expected to provide at least 20 hours of volunteer work per year.
• Associate Members may not apply for SISC moorage privileges for any watercraft.
• Associate Members may only sail from the SISC docks in the company of a Regular member on a vessel registered to that Regular member in the club’s database.

• Junior membership may be granted to applicants under the age of 19 years.
• Junior Club members are not entitled to vote, nor have mooring privileges.
• Junior Club members are expected to contribute a minimum of 20 volunteer-work hours each year to assist at the Annual Work Parties and other Club events.
• Junior Race Team members must be Junior Club members or have an active membership application in progress.

If club capacity is reached, applicants for Regular Membership may join as an Associate Membership and will be added to the Regular Membership Waitlist by their Associate Membership Seniority Number. When an opening becomes available, they may apply for Regular Membership.

The SISC private foreshore marina accommodates approximately 140 boats and is usually at capacity.

• After being granted a Regular Membership, the new member starts the Moorage Application process.
• Information and Moorage Application forms are found on the member-only side of the club website.
• Moorage assignment is subject to availability as determined by the Wharfinger.
• Payment of the Moorage Assignment Fee is due when moorage is received.

If no suitable moorage is available, the Moorage application will be added to the Moorage Waitlist by their Regular Membership Seniority Number.

Note that subletting moorage to another Regular Membership for up to one (1) year is permitted, upon application and approval of the Wharfinger.

SISC THRIVES ON MEMBER PARTICIPATION

Each Regular and Associate Member is expected to contribute a minimum of 20 volunteer hours annually to Club activities and initiatives such as:

• Daily Duty Wharfinger program (summer)
• Annual Work Parties (spring and fall)
• Special task Work Parties and specific volunteer callouts (year-round)
• Round Saltspring Sailing Race (May)
• Club Social Events (year-round)
• Educational Seminar Presentations (winter and spring)
• Serving as a Committee Member or specific Coordinator (year-round)
• Serving on the Board (year-round)

Applicants must be sponsored by two (2) Regular Membership members that do not share the same Regular Membership.

Each Sponsor must:

• Be a Regular Member for a minimum of 3 years
• Be in good financial standing re club obligations
• Fulfill annual volunteer-work expectations per Club regulations
• Understand our Club culture and take part through active involvement

Sponsors are expected to:

• Verify Regular Membership applicants have their principal residence on Salt Spring Island, and that a secondary applicant is in a spousal relationship and shares the same residence.
• Review the Club Yearbook, Vision, Purpose, Board and Committee organizational structure, and expectation that each member provides at least 20 volunteer-work hours to the Club each year.
• Discuss Club events, committees and activities that applicants are suited for based on their skills, experience and interest. Help them to complete the Volunteer Commitment form as necessary.
• Remind applicant(s) to declare if they have current qualifications in First Aid, BC Serve It Right and Foodsafe BC.
• Discuss applicant(s) experience/interest in sailing and boating, and ability to further the Club’s Purpose.
• Ensure applicant(s) understand that Moorage is subject to slip availability as determined by the Wharfinger.
• Continue to support the applicant(s) during their first years of membership. Share information, answer questions, and introduce them to other members and volunteer, event and program opportunities as they become part of our Club community.

Fees listed below are current as of 2026.

This one-time fee is due upon submission of a Membership Application.

This annual fee is charged pro-rata in the first year of Membership. Thereafter, it is due on the 1st of November each year.

Marine Parks Forever Levy is also charged annually with the annual membership fee.

1. Complete, sign and date your Membership Application Form. If there is a Secondary applicant, they must also complete their portion of the form.
2. For a Regular Membership application, email a scan or photocopy of the Primary Applicant’s BC Driver’s License. Once viewed by the Membership Officer, this will be deleted. However, bring this proof of your residence to your interview.
3. Discuss suitable club volunteer work opportunities with your Sponsors, then complete, sign and date your Volunteer Commitment Form. If there is a Secondary applicant, they must also complete their portion of the form.
4. Receive completed and signed Sponsorship Forms from both of your sponsors.
5. Email scans of your completed Membership Application, Volunteer Commitment, and both Sponsorship Forms in one email to membership@saltspringsailing.ca
